Since 2013, the war in Sudan has led to the world’s largest humanitarian crisis: 12.7 million people were forced to flee – either within the country or abroad – and 24.6 million people are affected by food insecurity. A fact-finding mission of the United Nations documented serious war crimes. The civil society is doing life-saving work there every day – under extreme conditions. For example, voluntary neighborhood assistance programs are organizing soup kitchens and basic medical care. Also, many Sudanese and international NGOs are continuing their work. However, despite this central role, the Sudanese civil society is hardly heard.
