But celebrating a wedding or even Christmas in the middle of a war? Yes! Many people don't let their celebrations be taken away from them, even in times of great hardship. After all, whether joyful and exuberant or reverent and pious - celebrating special events can be an act of resistance. 

On the back of the monthly pages of our calendar, critical texts explain the background and emphasize that festivals help to preserve one's own dignity and way of life, to hold on to rituals that structure one's life, create cohesion and identity and demonstrate a sense of belonging.
