There are around 6 million people living in Lebanon. Almost the entire population is Arabic, but there is an Armenian minority (about four percent of the population) and a few other smaller minorities (accounting for around one percent of the population altogether). There are also more than 400,000 Palestinian, Iraqi, and Syrian refugees living in the country. There is no single dominant religious community, but it is the Sunni Muslims who make up the largest religious group – with around 30 percent. Other large religious groups are the Shiite Muslims, the Maronite Christians, the Druze, and the Greek Orthodox.

The STP is especially apprehensive about the situation in the refugee camps. In 2012, we appealed to the Federal Foreign Minister to go to more trouble to protect refugees in Syria’s neighboring countries, which includes Lebanon.
