Live discussion on the situation in Afghanistan

Jan Jessen reports on the last days of Kabul

The situation in Afghanistan is still dramatic. The journalist Jan Jessen was in Kabul while the Taliban took hold of the city. He was evacuated by the Bundeswehr only a few days ago. In this online discussion, he will be talking to our Middle East Consultant Dr. Kamal Sido, focusing on his assessment of the situation and the last few days in Kabul. We cordially invite you to take part via Zoom:

Thursday, August 24

at 7 pm

Online (https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_6YP3w6KaS7SPQ0_o5oksbA)

As we have to limit the number of participants, we recommend prior registration. Also, the discussion will be broadcast via Facebook live.

We would like to thank Jan Jessen for the courageous reports he sent from Kabul during the last few days, and we are glad that he was able to return to Germany safely. Many people who are still in Afghanistan, threatened by the Taliban, are not as lucky – and we want to talk to Jessen about these people and the situation in their home country.

The demands of the Society for Threatened Peoples are clear: Get out the local staff, protect women and minorities! Further, we demand the Bundestag to form a committee of inquiry ("Untersuchungsausschuss"). The responsible parties CDU, CSU, and SPD will have to answer questions – because all of us are wondering what went wrong.
