Expression of solidarity after the attack on Aktion Global

“Together, we stand up for the rights of the Saharauis”

The Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) supports a call for solidarity by Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) following an attack on the Danish human rights organization Aktion Global, which advocates for the rights of the Saharauis. Co-signers, in addition to the STP and the WSRW, are the association Zentrum für Europäische und Orientalische Kultur (ZEOK e.V.), medico international, Freiheit für die Westsahara e.V., Aktionsgemeinschaft Solidarische Welt (ASW), La Jaima de Tiris, the Umbrella Association of Critical Shareholders (Dachverband Kritischer Aktionäre), Schweizerisches Unterstützungskomitee für die Sahraouis (SUKS), the Saharawi Diaspora in Germany, Bremer entwicklungspolitisches Netzwerk e.V. (BeN), and Solidarity Rising.

Expression of solidarity with Global Aktion, Copenhagen

It was with great dismay that we learned of the attack on the Copenhagen office of Global Aktion – the partner organization of Western Sahara Resource Watch – on the night of January 13. The cowardly attack is not only an act of violence, but obviously also a reaction to Global Aktion’s years-long political solidarity work to support the people of Western Sahara in their legitimate struggle for freedom and self-determination. The attack is clearly an attempt to intimidate people who advocate for the rights of the Saharauis. In Denmark, there is a group of people who support the brutal occupation of Western Sahara through the Moroccan regime. Their intimidation attempts are supposed to silence critical voices and fellow campaigners who are in solidarity. However, such attempts will fail. We strongly condemn these attempts at intimidation – and we are calling on politicians to ensure the security of organizations like Global Aktion. Together, we stand up for the rights of the Saharauis and for one world in the struggle for justice and freedom.
