Volkswagen must not benefit from genocide crimes in Xinjiang

Invitation to human rights action in Wolfsburg (Press Release)

The Society for threatened Peoples (STP) and the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) are organizing a human rights rally to draw attention to Volkswagen's role in Xinjiang / East Turkestan – and you are invited to take part:

Saturday, June 12, 2021
From 2 pm to 5 pm
In front of Wolfsburg’s Main Station (Hauptbahnhof)

The Volkswagen AG has a factory in the region of Xinjiang / East Turkestan, where the Chinese Government has introduced an aggressive assimilation policy against the Turkic population groups. According to the Scientific Service of the Bundestag, the system of reeducation camps, forced labor, forced sterilization, destruction of cultural heritage, and family separation is to be seen as genocide crime.

The two organizations are demanding the two German companies to either stop doing business with Chinese suppliers that have to do with forced labor in the region – or to leave the region entirely. To this day, Volkswagen has not issued any statement on how the company could make sure to observe its own code of conduct, according to which the company has to respect and promote the internationally recognized human rights. Further, there are apparently more and more audit companies that refuse to work in the region because they are not able to ensure an independent examination of the supply chains.
