Wang Yi in Berlin – Invitation: Human rights action (July 3)

Close down the forced boarding schools in Tibet and Xinjiang!

The Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) and the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) are organizing a spontaneous protest event on the occasion of the visit of Chinese foreign Minister Wang Yi. The aim is to send a clear message against the serious human rights violations in the People’s Republic of China – and especially against the systematic internment of Uyghur and Tibetan children in state-run forced boarding schools and against Beijing’s massive influence on the Dalai Lama’s succession. You are cordially invited.

Starting at 3 pm

In front of the Foreign Office

Werderscher Markt 1, 10117 Berlin

On the occasion of the visit, the STP sent an open letter to Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Johann Wadephul in which the human rights organization called on the German Federal Government to engage in talks with Wang Yi and to advocate for the immediate closure of forced boarding schools in Xinjiang and Tibet. The children must be reunited with their families. Further, the STP called for a clear stance from Germany against any interference by the Communist Party of China in religious affairs, particularly concerning the Dalai Lama’s succession.

“As a leading EU member state, Germany bears a special responsibility for a coherent and human rights-based foreign policy, the letter continues. “Words alone are no longer enough – what is needed is visible pressure on Beijing.”
