Support the Waorani, protect the Yasuní!
In the course of a human rights action, the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) will hand over a petition regarding support for the Waorani and protection of the Yasuní to the Embassy of Ecuador. You are cordially invited:
Monday, November 25, 2024
from 11 am to 12 noon
in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador
Joachimsthaler Str. 10-12, Berlin
The settlement area of the Yasuní in the Ecuadorian Amazon – one of the most biodiverse places on earth and home to indigenous and isolated communities such as the Waorani – is under serious threat due to decades of oil production. Together with the local Fundación Pachamama and other partners, we are demanding the closure of oil block 43 and a complete restoration of the affected areas in accordance with the will of the people of Ecuador, as expressed in a referendum a year ago. Protecting the Amazon region is crucial with regard to human rights, biodiversity, and climate protection on a global level.
