The Society for Threatened Peoples (STP), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the Society for East European Studies are organizing an online event on the human rights situation in Crimea, to which we cordially invite you. The event will take place on February 24, 2021, starting at 6 pm (German time / UTC +1). It will be simultaneously translated into German and Russian.

Seven years ago, the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea was occupied by Russia in a violation of international law – and ever since, there have been repeated reports about serious human rights violations. Activists and dissidents who dare to take action or speak out against the current rulers have to fear long prison sentences. For the Crimean Tatar people, the current situation is especially dramatic, as persecution, repression, and violations of their basic human rights and their group rights are commonplace.

So what is the situation of the Crimean Tatars today? What repressions are they exposed to – and what does the future hold for the occupied peninsula? The German Society for East European Studies, the Society for Threatened Peoples, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine, together with the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, are planning to discuss these and other questions in an online event.
