On the very same day when the Turkish parliament discussed military aggression against the peaceful Iraqui state Kurdistan, one of the most famous representatives of the Armenian minority, Hrant Dink, who was editor in chief of the Armenian newspaper „Agos”, got killed. Tilman Zülch, Secretary General of the Society for Threatened Peoples said „The army, the judiciary, the government and large parts of the media spread an atmosphere of constant national baiting against the Christian and Kurdish minorities”. A state that continuously pulls journalists, scientists, teachers, but also citizens and human rights activists in front of the courts if they speak for legitimate rights of the Christian and Kurdish people or if they incriminate crimes against humanity which were committed by the Turkish state in the past, cannot receive a place within the EU as a full member. We therefore appeal to the 27 member states of the EU to make the release of the about 2.000 political prisoners of Kurdish nationality and the re-resettlement of two million Kurds that had been displaced from 4.000 distroyed villages an absolute precondition for possibly making Turkey become a member of the European Union.
