Dear Mrs. Beatrice Ask,

Regarding the request of Biljana Plavšic for her early release from the Swedish prison where she has been doing the 11 years sentence given by the Hague Tribunal conviction, Society for Threatened Peoples BiH sends a plea to the Ministry of Justice as well as to the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden asking for her request to be rejected.

Biljana Plavšic was President of Bosnian Serbs and belonged to the establishment of Radovan Karadžic who in turn has been indicted by the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague for genocide and crimes against humanity. After admitting her responsibility in 2002 for mass murders, mass rapes, displacements, deportations to prison camps, destroyed cities and burned down villages, Biljana Plavšic was sentenced by the Hague Tribunal in February 2003 with 11 year prison sentence. Her confession for crimes committed inspired hope and expectation amongst thousands of survivors and victims’ families that justice will be served. But in sentencing Biljana Plavšic with a minor 11 year sentence, justice was not served and hope in the truthfulness of the Tribunal was questioned by victims.

We see Biljana Plavšcæ’s request for pardon as scandalous as she has already been pardoned by being given an 11 year sentence for most notorious crimes committed since the Second World War and this is why we are pleading with the Ministry of Justice and Government of the Kingdom of Sweden to reject her request for pardon.

With respect and in hope the plea of genocide victims and survivors of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be answered

Fadila Memiševiæ

President of Society for Threatened Peoples BiH
